Stoneman Press located close to the market town of Saffron Walden, is a small, friendly, well equipped printmaking studio, offering a broad range of printing techniques and creative workshops for all abilities run by Sue Jones.

Sue has extensive experience developing and delivering printmaking workshops for artists, schools, museums, galleries, including the British Museum, Kettles Yard, artist residencies and technical knowledge.

Sue currently teaches at Gainsborough House, ACE Foundation Stapleford Granary, Cambridge Art Makers and is an Artist Facilitator for Kettles Yard, Cambridge University.  Sue is a founder or the Cambridge Original Printmakers Biennale, an exhibition promoting hand pulled original print in the region.

Stoneman offers one, two and three day printmaking workshops and courses  also offering  one to one tuition for those who wish to develop and further their practice individually with the support of Sue Jones. Class sizes are small for maximum tuition contact and access to equipment.

Visiting tutors deliver workshops on their specialist techniques.

Stoneman Press is equipped with a Hunter Penrose Etching Press bed size 28 ins x 60 ins.  An Albion Relief Press 22ins x 36 ins, A Rollaco Adjustable Boxer Press, an Arteina Hydraulic Press (for hire), Rollaco Portable adjustable Press A3 9for hire), A2 light box, Exposure unit, Screen washout unit.

The studio is also available as an Open Access platform for artists to develop their own practice with technical support.

Autumn 2022

Hope you are having a lovely Summer and are not getting too singed around the edges – what a scorcher!    Despite the heat a busy Programme is ongoing throughout the Summer at Stoneman with extra Screen Printing, Teacher Training 1:1 sessions, and Photopolymer workshops taking place.

The Autumn Term kicks off with the 8 week  Discovering Print Course on the 22nd September.    For more details please see below. Practical Print Club Autumn Term 2022 
8 weeks –  Thursdays

A thorough Introduction to Printmaking this Autumn Term with Creative Lino, Drypoint, and lovely Collagraphs.

Experiment and investigate the many possibilities from one Lino block to achieve multi coloured images without the need to reduce the surface.  Discover the many possibilities of drypoint to produce images with lots of lovely fine details.   Create sensitive images with lots of character from found objects and surface texture with Collagraphs, learn how to ink both Intaglio, Relief and a combination of both.  A good and thorough grounding into these Printmaking stalwarts.  Followed by two supported development days to develop and further your practice.

A Term with lots to investigate, discover, and develop; meet like minded artists in a friendly studio.    Suitable for beginners and those wishing to develop their practice.

1:1 Tuition 
£250 per day – Includes  materials for most techniques – some techniques require extra materials fee.

Get more from your printmaking tuition with a 1:1 session with Sue.  Have the studio all to yourself and enjoy a fully immersed experience with your chosen print technique, decide areas you would like  more attention, with dates to suit you.

Open Access

Stoneman press has Open Access days available for a limited number of artists.  Artists may bring their own materials and equipment or buy materials from the studio.  Contact to book your place and technique.  From 10.00am – 4.00pm £52.

Stoneman Press studio is available to hire for Artist groups booking more than 4 sessions on  a reduced Open Access Rate.
