Stoneman Press located close to the market town of Saffron Walden, is a small, friendly, well equipped printmaking studio, offering a broad range of printing techniques and creative workshops for all abilities run by Sue Jones.

Sue has extensive experience developing and delivering printmaking workshops for artists, schools, museums, galleries, including the British Museum, Kettles Yard, artist residencies and technical knowledge.

Sue currently teaches at Gainsborough House, ACE Foundation Stapleford Granary, Cambridge Art Makers and is an Artist Facilitator for Kettles Yard, Cambridge University.  Sue is a founder or the Cambridge Original Printmakers Biennale, an exhibition promoting hand pulled original print in the region.

Stoneman offers one, two and three day printmaking workshops and courses  also offering  one to one tuition for those who wish to develop and further their practice individually with the support of Sue Jones. Class sizes are small for maximum tuition contact and access to equipment.

Visiting tutors deliver workshops on their specialist techniques.

Stoneman Press is equipped with a Hunter Penrose Etching Press bed size 28 ins x 60 ins.  An Albion Relief Press 22ins x 36 ins, A Rollaco Adjustable Boxer Press, an Arteina Hydraulic Press (for hire), Rollaco Portable adjustable Press A3 9for hire), A2 light box, Exposure unit, Screen washout unit.

The studio is also available as an Open Access platform for artists to develop their own practice with technical support.

Getting Going Again
At Stoneman Press

Hi all, I hope everyone is well.   Its lovely to be able to write to you about the planned reopening of Stoneman Press in September.     Individual Workshops will now be offered on two different dates, with reduced numbers attending on each day.    
In accordance with government guidelines PPE, Screens, hand and surface sanitiser, socially distanced individual workstations.  Reduced numbers.  Cleaning after each session.
In these challenging and unprecedented times we all need to keep safe, well and take care of others. Thanking everyone for all your support and understanding.   Fingers crossed all goes well.  Take care of yourselves, I look forward to welcoming you back as soon as possible.

Autumn Programme

Thursday Practical Print Autumn Term
1st October 
8 Weeks, 10.00 am – 4.00pm
Autumn  Term looks at Traditional Monoprinting techniques of transfer drawing, subtractive and painterly methods, use of pochoir, masking and layering.   Further Monoprinting with textured surfaces and found objects to create unique vibrant images.  Looks  at ghost prints, layering, stencil/masks, and counter-proofs.   Photopolymer a safe UV light sensitive technique that can produce relief and intaglio prints and can be exposed in the sun weather permitting.  For more information and availability contact Sue

Discovering Print

10.00am – 1.00pm
Summer Term looks at Further Mono printing with textured surfaces and found objects. A great way to explore and experiment with texture, colour and form to create unique prints. Create multi coloured relief prints with Keyblock Lino that gives you the ability to  experiment with many different colour pathways in your image.  Woodcut a relief printmaking technique harnessing the beautiful character of wood using birchwood ply.
